VREID really goes out of their way in order to make their brand of blackened metal sound different. There's a lot of really up-tempo stuff here that is atypical of a standard black metal release, instead, this band incorporates elements of punk, traditional metal and dare it be said, rock into the mix in order to come up with a dirty sounding vibe that reminds the listener of what might happen had you crossed very old Cradle Of Filth with Venom. The result is one bombastic unholy marriage of styles that births a different type of sound. The records rough production fits in with the theme and the style to a certain extent, but where's the bass drum, guys? Triggered drum sounds are a must these days, even for black metal. 'Helvete' kicks off with an occult sounding, mechanized flavor. Vreid make it clear that they are more than willing to experiment with some different sounds and what comes from this is a cold, dark feeling about the album as frigid as the winds of the group's frozen homeland of Norway. 'Wrath Of Mine' enters with a chilling blast that gives way to a more straightforward metallic onslaught and a great Slayer influenced guitar lick. 'Evig Pine' blasts through a biting march, and then kicks in full throttle and totally over the top with menacing riffs and hyper-blasts. Vocally, you'll hear everything from bleak, raspy growls to unholy, blasphemous roars. Although the group experiments with a lot of different sounds, the record on the whole has a grim, evil vibe that properly reflects the band's attitude and delivers a satisfying listen throughout the eight tracks of 'Kraft'. Prepare for an unearthly assault of pure blackened madness with this album's release.
