Proof positive that different is definitely good, Carbomb hints at their potential to force extremity a step further with this wildly schizophrenic three track EP. Making short work of unwary listeners, 'Rid' offers jerky, off-kilter blasting, being the equivalent of a super-powered jackhammer to the face. While this non-lengthy skull-smasher introduces the group's penchant toward primal savagery, 'His Eyes' manages to give you the impression that there is much, much more to Carbomb than that which lies on the surface.
Shifting musical themes are highlighted throughout this cut as Carbomb end up sounding like a mashing of Napalm Death and Korn one moment, Mr. Bungle and Acid Bath the next. Few bands can take such a diverse assemblage of rhythms and tones and remain with their integrity intact, but this New York foursome lives up to the challenge unflinchingly, all the while issuing some of the most sonically destructive sounds you can imagine. The track's outro serves more as an intro to the spacey, futuristic 'Solid Grey', a track that owes as much to Voivod as it does to Mesuggah.
Comparisons aside, Carbomb are most interesting because of their ability to meld these differing contrasts and textures into a sound of their own. To top it all off, the group produced and mixed this disc themselves, and the quality and attention to aural detail is highly impressive. This superb seven minute introduction to the critically destructive capabilities of this group is virtually guaranteed to leave metal fans restless for a full length album, Carbomb is that explosive!
